Photo and description

Bangladesh National Zoo is located in Dhaka, in the Mirpur district. This is one of the most popular places where locals and foreign tourists spend their time with pleasure.

Established in 1974, the National Zoo has been improving for many years and is considered one of the best zoos in Bangladesh, hosting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. More than 2,000 animals of 165 species live here.

Visitors to the National Zoo will enjoy open-air cages for animals that mimic the natural environment. They are designed to make animals feel at home, and visitors could see animals close by. Of course, predators are isolated behind bars, but in general the appearance of the zoo with its shady paths and two large calm lakes inhabited by migratory waterfowl every winter gives the impression that you are in the wild and not in one of the busiest cities in Bangladesh .

The mammals department in the zoo includes elephants, cheetahs, rhinos, zebras, otters, hyenas, deer, giraffes, impalas, black bears, tapirs, hippos, lions. There are also many different types of monkeys, chimpanzees and baboons. The majestic royal Bengal tigers are the highlight of the zoo, which is not surprising since they are the national symbol of Bangladesh.

Many animals, including zebras, giraffes, impala, hippos, water goats and rhinos, were brought to Bangladesh from South Africa and adapted well to the new environment. The hippo aviary includes a large lake covered with aquatic vegetation, so hippos seem quite content with life.

In aviaries for birds contains more than 1,500 birds of 90 species, and visitors can see peacocks, nandus, African gray parrots, cassowaries, emus, not to mention finches, blackbirds, owls, eagles and many others. A crocodile hall has been opened, in which there are always many tourists, as well as a serpentarium. The zoo has a museum of the history of the institution and the animals in it, and many information stands are located throughout the territory.

Dhaka Zoo is not only an entertainment center, but also an educational center, as visitors learn more about animals living in Bangladesh and other parts of the world.
