The spring of Grandfather Taran is a source in the Gorky microdistrict of Volgograd, the water of which is considered healing. It is the source of the Tsaritsa River.
The spring has been known since the 19th century when these lands were owned by the local merchant Nikolai Osipovich Taranov, who was popularly called the grandfather of Taran. He ennobled the spring and looked after his condition until the 1930s, when dispossession began. Then there was no opportunity to maintain the source and it was launched.
According to legend, Grandfather Taran lived 102 years (this is mentioned in the inscription at the spring) due to the fact that he drank water from this spring. It was believed that many became centenarians using water from this source.
For many years, the source was launched. But today he is again ennobled by the efforts of the grandson of his grandfather Taran - Taranov Nikolai Nikolaevich and activists. Today, the spring complex includes: a source, a font, a chapel and a church in the name of the Icon of the Mother of God the Life-Giving Spring.
